FRANKENSTEIN'S CASTLE OF FREAKS
Sure everyone likes the classic Frankenstein pictures, your Universals and your Hammers but we at Gorillanaut.com prefer the ones made by brave visionaries who spin the story in exciting new ways. The not as famous stories where Frankenstein meets Jesse James daughter, fights space monsters or anything about his great Aunt Tillie. Which brings us to the 1974 Dick Randall classic FRANKENSTEIN'S CASTLE OF FREAKS. Dick Randall was usually a producer of fine pictures like THE EROTIC ADVENTURES OF ROBINSON CRUSOE and FREEZE BOMB but he directs this time around. Rossano Brazzi is Dr. Frankenstein. He's got a castle of sorts and some crappy employees, including a hunchback and a perverted dwarf played by Michael Dunn. The local villagers gang up on a troublesome Neanderthal and crack his head open with a rock. Frankenstein gets the corpse and stars experimenting, although I'm not sure why. He does shave the caveman though, well not all of him, just his face. Meanwhile his daughter and her hot friend come to stay as well as the daughter's fiance. The dwarf creeps around and peeps on both girls so you get a little nudity. There's also a bit with Frankenstein's cook who likes to be slapped while she has rough sex with the hunchback. So the dwarf, hunchback and another Frankenstein employee rob a grave but the dwarf leaves his little footprints everywhere, a fact the local constable notices. The villagers are already suspicious of Frankenstein because who wouldn't be I suppose. The dwarf has been written up before so he's on his way out. He also likes to grope the girl corpses. So he finally gets fired and wanders off where he meets another neanderthal who looks a lot like Luis Guzman but is played by Boris Lugosi. He takes the dwarf back to his cave and shares what looks like a skinned cat with him. While this is going on the hot friend has taken an interest in old Dr. Frankenstein and his work. The Neanderthal he has been working on is named Goliath and also like the hot friend but doesn't act on it because he's strapped to a table. Frankenstein has shaved the top of Goliath's head and he looks a lot like Bozo the Clown but with black hair. The Dwarf and his Neanderthal friend who he has named "Ook" kidnap a village girl and Dwarfy teaches Ook how to rape, which doesn't go well for the village girl as she is killed. The villagers do their thing and start getting ready with the torches, pitchforks and so on. To relax the hot girls take a hot springs mineral bath and rub mud on one another. No matter where any chick is in this movie, if she gets naked the dwarf is there. So Goliath is freed and goes batshit while the hot chicks are menaced by dwarfy and Ook the Raping caveman which leads to the inevitable tragedy.
I guess I wanted more freaks in this mess but I suppose if you're doped up on sedatives and fading in and out of consciousness it has something to offer you. The version I watched was from the old Elvira Movie Macabre so if you're a fan of her you're in luck. You can watch it with or without her bits and the movie is uncut so the tits are all there. Print quality was decent enough.
