And now for something bleak. DEADGIRL for me conjured up the thought of what might have happened if those two Columbine jackoffs had found a tied up naked zombie girl instead of going on a killing spree. Ricky and J.T. are high school nothings are the verge of a life of nothing. They find a naked girl tied up in the basement of an abandoned sanitarium. J.T. Pretty much immediately wants to fuck her while Ricky wants to help her out. It quickly becomes apparent she is not normal and is essentially a "deadgirl". With shades of RIVER'S EDGE, things become even darker. As much as Ricky is disgusted by her, J.T. And another loser named Wheeler treat Deadgirl like a fuck puppet. J.T. rarely leaves the basement, and nobody besides his two friends ever seems to notice. J.T. And Ricky are largely forgotten and have depressing home lives. J.T. Lives with his unseen dying Grandma and Ricky's sole adult authority figure is his mom's alcoholic boyfriend - essentially a future version of himself. Both boys and their follower friend Wheeler have pretty much given up on life. They accept beatings from bullies without fighting back. As J. T. says, Deadgirl is about as good as they can hope for. It gets way out of control once a couple of bullying jocks find out about the deadgirl, and you know it ain't gonna be pretty.
I don't think anyone ever says 'zombie', and it's really not a zombie movie (except on the edges) but much more a look at how teen boys think about women and sex. It is never explained who, what or why Deadgirl is and so it seems more like a grim, very gruesome fairy tale. Definitely unpleasant yet a really confident flick. It's up there with SUBURBIA, RIVER'S EDGE and SAY YOU LOVE SATAN as far as depicting the bleak lives of sad loser teens. But with a zombie girl sex slave.
